Tom Bassett was born in Cornwall in 1988 grew up in the fishing village of Prothleven. In 2006 Tom went to study  composition at Birmingham Conservatoire with Richard Causton and Edwin Roxburgh where he graduated with a First class BMus (Hons) degree. His compositions have been performed at various venues across the country, including Symphony Hall, Birmingham and the Royal Albert Hall, London. He has also had the opportunity to write for professional ensembles such as Decibel and BCMG and in 2008 his wind orchestra piece “Fanfare for Winds” was selected to be performed by the Birmingham Conservatoire Wind Orchestra.

Tom has recently been commissioned to write the music for the World’s Largest Orchestra record attempt at the LG Arena Birmingham on the 24th October 2010. In September 2010, Tom has been awarded a scholarship to study for a Masters in Composition at Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

Tom is a co founder of www.findthatscore.com, which will launch in 2010. The site will provide an opportunity for unpublished composers to sell their work. Tom also helps run Thumb Contemporary Music Ensemble where he holds the role of Orchestral Manager.
