Catatonic
Catatonic is a solo piece for the G Alto recorder. The piece is influenced by Catatonic Schizophrenia in which sufferers go from extremes of finding it hard to move or speak to hyperactivity and excitement. The piece explores the different colours possible on the Recorder by using alternative fingerings and finishing with the Recorder player singing whilst playing.
When choosing which recorder to write for I was drawn to the sound of the G Alto recorder. The G Alto has a very direct sound compared to other recorders and its large finger holes make it very versatile for alternative fingerings.
